With one Grand Prix still to go, Jeremy Alcoba has become the rookie of the year of the Moto3 class in 2020 after a complicated race, in which he was able to brilliantly finish 10th courtesy of a late move on the experienced opponent McPhee. Despite the achievement, he would have liked to celebrate his birthday with a better race position.
With a tally of 71 points – 27 more than his rival in this special classification, Oncu – and only Portimao left on the calendar, the Spanish rider of Team Kömmerling Gresini Moto3 places a seal on a surely positive season, with fourth as a best result (San Marino) and two second row starts as best qualifying – something that should not be underestimated since Saturday afternoon is usually not Alcoba’s strongest part of the weekend.
Another round to forget, on the other hand, for Gabriel Rodrigo. The Argentine rider, who was taken out by Rossi yesterday in Q1 – a collision that relegated him on the last position of the grid – was putting together a great comeback, which unfortunately was brought to a premature end due to a crash at turn 14 ‘in partnership’ with Alonso Lopez. No points for the #2 rider, who will now try one last time to secure a strong result at Portimao, taking place in a week’s time.
